Dude, this is the best advice anyone has given me thanks. I’m gonna listen to these tracks and get back to you
My Friend [regarding my advice about MC’s]
I just remembered a really weird feeling. A feeling I had when I first moved to Arkansas.
It was terribly cold, but a different kind of cold than Napa & the Bay had. Everyone sounded weird because they spoke a weird dialect, some teachers couldn’t understand me. I felt like I was staying in a hotel (…that feeling never completely went away). And everyone was ugly, their culture and clothing was either date or really different—gone were creased Dickies & Cortezes, and here was camo and potatoe shoes. Christianity was everywhere, and Catholicism & Apisocopalianism was thin.
That was a terrible year. That was a terrible feeling.
"It takes a long time for women to feel it’s alright to be #chingona. To aspire to be a chingona! You are saying, ‘This is my camino, this is my path and I’m gonna follow it, regardless of what culture says.’ I don’t think the church likes chingonas. I don’t think the state likes chingonas!" #SandraCisneros #treatyoself #selfcare (at Las Cruces)
